Broad-winged are flying! Stop by the hawk watch at Cromwell Valley Park during the peak flight period for migrating Broad-winged Hawks to see one of the great spectacles of bird migration. The CVP Hawk Watch will be staffed by experienced counters during this September peak flight window. Pick your day and time: come as early as you like and stay as long as you like.
In addition to Broad-wingeds, a wide variety of other raptors are likely to be sighted in September, including Bald Eagles, Ospreys, Northern Harriers, Sharp-shinned and Cooper’s Hawks, American Kestrels, and maybe some Merlins and Peregrines. Last fall, the Hawk Watch tallied a total of 4,124 raptors over the fall season.
