Turkey Point/Woodlawn Wildlife Area

These two locations are arguably the best locations to see warblers and other songbird migrants in Cecil County. We’ll start at Turkey Point, part of Elk Neck State Park. This location has been described as a “mini Cape May” since, like Cape May, migrating birds funnel down the peninsula and congregate at the point before continuing their migration. In addition to being a great migrant trap, Turkey Point is also very scenic. The birds congregate around the lighthouse at the point, which is positioned high above the bay. The views are stunning!

From there, we’ll head to Woodlawn Wildlife Area, which is Cecil County’s version of Cromwell Valley Park or the Howard County Conservancy: lots of nice meadow/scrub habitat bordered by mature woods. Migration at Turkey Point tends to quiet down around 10:00am, but the warblers and other small birds remain active at Woodlawn into the afternoon. Trip is limited…
